Learning levels

Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

The Learn Welsh courses are aligned with the learning levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The purpose of the CEFR is to show how to progress from being a beginner, who can hold simple conversations, to becoming a fluent speaker who uses Welsh confidently.

Mynediad

Courses for beginners, where you will learn to speak about everyday activities such as your work, family and friends, and hobbies.

Sylfaen

This level builds on Entry (Mynediad) level to teach all the basic patterns of the Welsh language.

Canolradd

Suitable for those who are familiar with the main patterns of Welsh. There’s a little more writing, reading and listening at this level.

Uwch

You’ll discuss all kinds of subjects and themes at this level. The main aim is to create confident speakers. Uwch 1, Uwch 2 and Uwch 3 courses are available. 

Hyfedredd

These courses are suitable for fluent learners and Welsh speakers and are tailored to the needs of the class. Classes can focus on spoken or written skills.
